Top Ten Drama Movies (Hollywood) - Ranked

If there is one thing that people crave, love, and fall for, it's drama. And what's a better way to access that feeling than by watching movies? Books, you say, my dear reader? I would say, yes! But moviegoers are any day capable of waging a war against bookworms and destroy the insects in a single blow. Such is their domination. Such is the irony. This apart, let us come back to the point and check the top ten drama movies Hollywood has offered us so far.

10) Remember the Titans (2000)

Dir: Boaz Yakin

"Welcome to my life, Yoast" - Coach Boone

Denzel Washington is one of the most underrated guys in American cinema. This stage-born actor's every movie has soul in it. And this movie named Remember the Titans is no exception. Walking into a white-dominated town, Coach Boone (Washington) faces difficulties in keeping his American football team together, while also managing to endure the lucid racism that's been running the streets. It contains some brilliant scenes which, for sure, will make you feel good!

9) Dead Poets Society (1989)

Dir: Peter Weir

"No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world"

Associate the Robin Williams' character with your most loved teacher from school days, this movie goes to another level. We see ourselves in the characters of Ethan Hawke and Robert Leonard while our favorite teacher Keating fights the normalcy to teach a mere lesson called 'seize the moment'! You better keep an ice cream tub within reach to stop yourself from crying during the climax!

8) Forrest Gump (1994)

Dir: Robert Zemeckis

"Life is a like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

Life takes crazy turns. And you can know it no better way than watching Tom Hanks' Forrest Gump. Less of a movie and more of tears and exuberance, this drama takes you to a certain better place, no matter what mood you were in.

7) The Green Mile (1999)

Dir: Frank Darabont

"He kill them with their love. With their love for each other. That's how it is, every day, all over the world."

This is a movie which tells about how far kindness and humanity can take you. The Green Mile, which also stars Tom Hanks as one of the leads, is one movie which actually made me cry, while the above all managed to pull off goose-pimples all over.

6) The Pianist (2002)

Dir: Roman Polanski

"You took my soul"

It is natural when you witness something for a while, like for an hour or so, you feel yourself in it. Be it a movie, or a real life scene. And God forbid, same thing happens when you watch The Pianist. Watching the guy managing to just survive and live, through every sour lemon that life has to offer, you, for sure, will feel better about your own, better, life.

5) Life is Beautiful (1997)

Dir: Roberto Bengini

"Buon giorno, Principessa"

There are best drama movies and there is Life is Beautiful. It is a simple story of a father who finds himself in the darkest setting of the 20th century, but still manages to smile and make his son feel alright. If you can adapt even one hundredth of optimism of the father, God, you shall prosper in your life.

4) Casablanca (1942)

Dir: Michael Curtiz

"Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine"

Casablanca is a story of all the simple yet substantial things in life like friendship, love, and lovelorn. Set in the time of World War II, this movie stays one of the best movies of all time. As the time goes by! Yes, as the time goes by!

3) Schindler's List (1993)

Dir: Steven Spielberg

"Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire"

Like the last three movies in the list, the Schindler's List too was set in the time of World War II. It's a movie of a man who goes beyond his limitations, abilities, and his safety zone to save people. And the last six minutes of the movie is a competition among Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, Speilberg, and John Williams the music director, just, just to make you cry! And they win, by the way!

2) The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Dir: Frank Darabont

"Get busy living, or get busy dying"

There are very few who haven't read The Alchemist yet. In the same way, there are very less number of people who haven't watched The Shawshank Redemption. And if you're one of them, I'm done telling people but this one time, just go and watch it!

1) It's a Wonderful Life (1946)

Dir: Frank Capra

"No man is a failure who has friends!"

A George Bailey, one of the best fictional characters of the century, is a fool who wants to die because things are not going his way. And the events that follow make him realize that life is nothing short of wonderful. Enough said, now watch it if you haven't watched yet.
